James 3:14-16

If your wisdom comes with bitterness and envy it’s ungodly wisdom. Be careful.

Wisdom

James 3:13-14

Do you show your wisdom by your humility or do you show it by selfish ambition? Choose to acknowledge bitterness and selfish ambition but don’t dwell on it. It is better to do good deeds with humility.

Use your mouth to produce blessings

James 3:9-12

Just as a fig tree produces figs so should a Godly mouth produce blessings

Curses and Blessings! Why?

James 3:9-10

Why is it that we have both curses and blessings coming from the same mouth?  Can we control it?  What power the tongue has.

Taming the tongue is impossible

James 3:7-8

Humans have tamed other animals but the tongue....???  Can you do it?

The tongue is small yet mighty--be wise

James 3:3-5

Because the tongue is small yet mighty we must be very wise in how we use it.  Let us spur one another on to good deeds.

No one is perfect

James 3:2

Having Control  over what we say is significant as none of us are perfect.

A friend doesn't just say they are a friend they act like one too.  So too with faith, we shouldn't just say we love God we should act like we love God too.

Show faith through deeds

James 2:17-18

Show your faith by your deeds. What a challenge! Lord Jesus help us to show our faith through our deeds especially as we socially distance ourselves.

Walk the walk

James 2:14-16

Faith without works is dead. We need to walk the walk and take care of each other. Lord Jesus please show us how to take care of each other in such away that we appropriately balance loving ourselves You and others.

Mercy wins over judgement

James 2:12–13

Act as though you are under a law that brings freedom. Nicky Gumbel in the alpha course, describes this as playing football by the rules. There are less injuries and people enjoy themselves more than playing without a referee.

And then remember mercy because as we show mercy we will be shown mercy.

One sin means the law has been broken

James 2:10-11

Favoritism is a sin

James 2:9

Wow! Here it is in black and white. Favoritism is a sin. Lord Jesus, please help us to love each person You put in our path. Amen.

Love your neighbour

James 2:7-8
How often do the rich take God’s name in vain? Sadly too often in Canada. So what can we do? Love our neighbour irregardless of their financial status.

Poor yet rich

James 2:5-6

Have you noticed that many who are poor have a greater faith than many who are rich? We need to be careful with who we hang out with as the rich may not always have our best interests in mind. With God eyes we can begin to see the equal value of all people.

Don’t show favoritism

James 2:1-4

It’s hard not to hang out with just our friends but here we’re challenged not to show favoritism. Remember we never know what angels God is bringing to us. Reach out to a person outside of your circle and see what new experiences God wants to give you.

What does God require of me?

James1:27

Look after widows and orphans in their distress and don’t get polluted by the world. What does it mean to you, not getting polluted by the world?

Worthless religion

James1:26

If you don’t watch what you say you’re religion becomes useless. Remember God gave us one mouth and two ears. May we have the wisdom of God when we speak,

The perfect law, when practiced, gives freedom

James 1:25

Looking at the perfect law means studying God’s word. We need to study God’s word and then put it into practice to receive a wonderful blessing. Let’s do it.

A glance in the mirror

James 1:22-24

Have you ever glanced in the mirror then, after walking away forgotten what you look like. James is saying this is like listening and not applying what you’ve heard. It makes me think I need to apply Sunday sermons a little more. How about you?

Let us clean up the evil and replace "the dirt" with the word of God.
